I pay Wordpress an annual fee to NOT have ads on my site.
If you are using Shared free hosting like wordpress.com they can decide to put ads on your site without your permission, you pay only if you don't want ads displayed on your blog. With self hosted, you can choose either to have the ads on your site or not.

Hi, Media.net is a bigger player like Google adsense that is the reason its known by most people. It is also more similar to Adsense than the others. I use both Media.net and Infolinks on my site. If you are using Google adsense you can add both Infolinks and Media net to make more money on your site.

If you are using Google Adsense, You can add Chitika, Infolinks and even Media net. They won't interfere with Google adsense Ads. This enables you to make more money. Am using Chitika, Infolinks, Adnow, and Media.net and I can assure you that you can make some dollars from them.

You can choose to use one banners and put it in the sidebar in case the ad network you go for has banners. That is the best if you don't want your site to appear spam.
