How to supplement your income using your Blog

Having an extra income is always a good thing even if you don’t need it. It can be challenging to get revenue resources that can provide you with an extra income. But before you start looking out for these extra revenue sources, always look within, you might be surprised to find a great source of income from what you currently spend your free time on,  that might make you ask yourself, ‘’why didn’t I start thinking of this earlier?’’

Some of the best sources of extra income are personal blogs but often they are overlooked. Blogs have a great potential of creating additional revenue to supplement your normal income. Using a personal blog to generate an extra income, is all about creating the right type of content and having the right type of ad partner to work with to monetize your blog. You can create a standout blog by focusing on niche content; things you know best and are passionate about.

The contextual ads perform better on niche blogs and they also protect reader’s privacy. One best example of contextual ad network is media.net. Media.net contextual ads have a track record of doing well on niche blogs. Since I have used media.net for a long time to monetize my blogs, and achieved good results, I highly recommend them.

How a blog can create an additional revenue source

If you are already using an ad partner on your blog, diversify your revenue source for greater benefits.  More demand sources means more competition, which means more revenue for you; media.net offers exclusive demand that is not available anywhere else. Media.net plays well with other ad partners or networks; this can help bring in income that is otherwise lost.

  • I do want to earn an income from the blog but I am really careful to make sure there is a balance of ads on my posts. I don't want my actual content overshadowed by ads. Good ideas though!

  • Hi John, the one thing I find is the pop-up ads can be very annoying! I like providing services and doing a litlte affiliate marketing from my blog. It took me years to start making money but now I am at it full time with my services and love it! Thanks for your tips! Always important to diversify along the way too as you can lose a client and then need other ways to generate revenues.

  • LIked! Nice to see as I am progressing that I am on the right track! Thank you for your great artcles!

  • I had ads from media.net on my blog for a while but was hardly making anything, so I'm going to wait until I have more traffic and then enable the ads once again. Glad to hear it's working out for you!

    • Hi, I think you should request Media.net to open up an additional inventory of ads for you by registering your site with Doubleclick for Publishers. This will enable you to get high mix of high performing display & contextual ads besides the normal media.net ads but I think you need to have a reliable and consistency traffic to qualify for this additional inventory of ads. With this, you are sure of earning daily from media.net since these additional ads work on CPM (Cost per 1000 impresssions), i.e. you need only visits to earn and not clicks as with the CPC (Cost per click) ads that come with normal media.net a ads.

  • Glad to hear media.net worked for you :) I had bad luck with them but that doesn't mean everyone will. Great post!

    • Hi Megan, it is always good to test several networks to see which works well for your site. I have tested so many until I found a few ones that perform well on my site.
